The above “Theme” has not been lightly adopted, and the series of nine Seminars and Workshops over the two days of the 2011 Pacific Trade Expo, will highlight the existing and also untapped economic and business potential in the Pacific Islands.
Up until the 1960’s, many Pacific Island countries enjoyed trade surpluses, but over the intervening years, these Pacific countries have experienced growing trade deficits, so that today the balance of merchandise trade with NZ is around 10 to 1 in New Zealand’s favour!

Fools gold’ in carbon trade bid

Papua New GuineaThe Coalition for Rainforest Nations (CfRN) and the PNG Office of Climate Change are against the voluntary carbon credits being advocated by some ‘traders’ in PNG.
They described it as “fool’s gold” totalling less than $1 billion in market capitalisation and only a minor percentage dedicated to forests globally.

Fiji export earnings up 74 percent says RBF

RBF governor, Sada ReddyFiji’s domestic export earnings rose by 74.4 percent in January 2010 compared to a 41.8 percent decline in the same period in 2009, the Reserve Bank of Fiji reports in its monthly economic review for June.

Fiji Sugar Corporation hopeful for boost in sugar industry

The Fiji Sugar Corporation (FSC) is hopeful for a boost in the sugar industry with the land reform programmes coming in.  FSC chief executive officer Deo Saran told FijiLive with more land available for sugar production, it will become easier to have more sugar cane being planted.

Companies in Solomon Islands told to re-register

 Business operating in Solomon Islands have nine months to re-register their companies or face removal from the registry.This came about after the expiry of the old Companies Act and the enforcement of the Companies Act 2009 and the Companies (Insolvency and Receivership) Act which came into force on 1 July 2010.
